- Innovation in Focus Editor
Description
The position is our Innovation in Focus Editor. This person leads our Innovation in Focus series, which partners with a different newsroom (or cohort of newsrooms) each month to help them try something new. These short term experiments are aimed towards helping the newsroom innovate, while producing how-to articles that let other newsrooms and journalists replicate the innovation. In the past these experiments have ranged from zines to election events, testing transcription tools to revenue strategies. This position also publishes the monthly Innovation in Focus newsletter which is a roundup of each month’s articles, and helps oversee our RJI Student Innovation Fellows in their summer fellowships.
Money & benefits:
Salary is $65k-75k
23 days off a year, 10 holidays + Winter leave (Dec 25-Jan 1 off)

Requirements
- You are excited to be a part of a team that strives to produce useful, actionable and accessible resources for community-centered journalists and newsrooms.
- You have a practical mindset! You do not chase fads or hype. You want to find free/low-cost, easy and practical ways for newsrooms to tackle their challenges.
- You are organized, understand the importance of meeting deadlines and are excellent at multi-tasking and time management.
- You do not see innovation as solely tech, you know innovation comes in many forms and are excited to explore all of them with the newsrooms we partner with.
- You have 2–3 years professional experience in small/medium newsrooms and/or community centered journalism — so you know the workload, budgets and resources of those we work to serve.
- You want to keep growing, learning and take feedback seriously.
- You treat everyone with respect and kindness — whether they’re a student, an experienced journalist, a faculty member or other.
