Job Summary

In collaboration with the Chief Program Officer, this position provides leadership, strategic direction, and management of the NLN Center for Innovation in Education Excellence, specifically develops new revenue generating initiatives to advance excellence in teaching and learning to enhance faculty skills and expertise to meet the needs of this contemporary generation of learners. The director will increase the NLN faculty development program offerings in teaching and learning strategies and explore innovative ways to enhance both online and in-person resources offered by the Center. The director provides leadership for the development of new simulation and technology products (e.g., vSims, VR) with strategic partners, e.g., Laerdal and Wolters Kluwer based on the NLN’s mission-aligned business model. This position provides leadership and management for two Institutes: Simulation and Technology and Excellence in the Care of Vulnerable Adults. The director will also seek funding to implement and expand Center initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities

Collaborate with the NLN Chief Program Officer to provide strategic leadership and management to the NLN Center for Innovation in Education Excellence to align with the NLN core values, mission, and strategic plan.

Manage and develop staff of the Institutes and provide a culture of collaboration and respect with internal NLN and external staff and stakeholders.

Plan faculty development offerings at the NLN Education Summit and other NLN professional development programs through the Division’s two Institutes: Simulation and Technology and Excellence in the Care of Vulnerable Adults to promote the professional growth and continuous quality improvement of faculty.

  • Enhance the Center’s website to highlight innovative teaching and learning resources.
  • Provide oversight and creative input of NLN faculty development offerings related to technology enhanced teaching and learning strategies.
  • Conduct regular environmental scans of nursing education initiatives and national programming in education excellence to provide guidance on strategic directions for the Center.
  • Present at NLN conferences and other requested workshops/conferences as the NLN expert on excellence and innovation in the use of simulation and technology in teaching and learning.
  • Manage NLN’s Leadership Development Program for simulation Educators, in collaboration with NLN co-director (consultant), within the NLN Leadership Institute. This includes participating in the Institute’s strategic planning.

Manage budgets in collaboration with the chief financial officer and chief program officer.

Engage in research and consultative services as appropriate.

Participate in managing NLN strategic partner relationships and NLN funded projects to integrate programming/initiatives related to innovation in education excellence.

  • In collaboration with NLN leadership, assist in the development of grants and other funding sources to support innovation in education excellence, sustain ongoing Center and expand the Center’s initiatives.
  • Provide expert guidance to the NLN’s Advancing Care Excellence projects to improve care of vulnerable populations through use of unfolding cases and simulations.
  • Provide oversight of the development of new products, as appropriate, with NLN partners (e.g. Laerdal and Wolters Kluwer).

Collaborate with the NLN Centers and other Business Units.



Requirements

Education:

  • Doctorate in nursing or related field and current unencumbered RN license are required.

Experience:

  • Three – four years in an administrative leadership position required.
  • Six years teaching in a baccalaureate or higher degree nursing program required
  • A minimum of five years in simulation design, implementation, and evaluation required
